CYBEX brings smart technology to pushchairs!
We were lucky enough to be invited to the headquarters of CYBEX in Germany last week! As well as all the new products, updates for next year and car seat crash tests, we were excited to see the new e-PRIAM in the flesh.
With brand-new smart technology designed exclusively by CYBEX, the brand - known for its innovative approach - has upgraded its popular PRIAM into an electronic pushchair. To make parents' lives easier, it features a motor that senses when you need that extra help pushing. There are sensors built into the handlebar that can detect if you are pushing uphill - this then activates the Smart Uphill Assist.
Having actually used this feature, we can't believe the difference that it makes. Within the centre of the stylish Cybex offices, we were directed to a steep slope to really test out what the e-PRIAM can do. On our first run, we used an e-PRIAM with the assistance turned off and then we tried again with the features raring to go. Rather than pushing with force up the hill on tiptoes, calf muscles straining, you can stroll casually uphill, as the pushchair does most of the work for you. It also helps on the way back down the hill, as it adds resistance to stop the pushchair running away with you.
The e-PRIAM looks pretty much identical to the new PRIAM, the only difference being the thicker rear axle, which houses the battery of the pushchair, and a straighter handlebar for the sensors. It can also be purchased with the same chassis and fabrics choices and can be used with the LUX Carrycot, LITE Cot, infant carrier or seat unit. The battery adds an extra 2.4kg to the weight of the chassis.
As well as hills, the e-PRIAM can help you over other difficult terrains, including sand, snow, cobbles, gravel and mud. If it's not needed, or you want to preserve the battery, just turn it off! The battery run time does depend on the circumstances that it is used in and the weight that it needs to carry. CYBEX advises that the battery takes six hours to fully charge, and if the e-PRIAM is loaded with 23kg, should last two to three days. Charging the battery is simple, either plug in while attached to the stroller, or remove it first from its port.
The price of the CYBEX e-PRIAM is from £1199.90 depending on the package you choose.
